Vaginal Cones Help Women Avoid Embarrassing Incontinence
Vaginal cones or weights are used to find and strengthen the PC muscles (pubococcygeus), in order to prevent or treat urinary incontinence. The pubococcygeus is a hammock-like muscle, found in both sexes, that is attached to the pubic bone in front. It stretches out to form the floor of the pelvic cavity and attaches to the tail bone, in the back.
The hammock supports the pelvic organs: the bladder, the rectum and the uterus. But, there are many other things in the area, including the urinary tract and the vagina, as well as nerve, bone and the lower digestive tract.
Because they are packed in tightly in this small area, dysfunction in one area can impact the function of all other areas. Vaginal cones are a way to strengthen the health of the area, but other steps may be needed as well. For example, constant or frequent constipation puts undue stress on the bladder and may result in incontinence.
Usually, though, it is weakened PC muscles that cause urinary leakage, particularly during coughing, sneezing or other activities that put stress on the hammock. The urethral sphincter is connected to the PC muscles. When they sag, as a result of childbirth, pregnancy or being overweight, the sphincter muscle basically “slides down” closer to the urethra and is unable to close the bladder neck.
Vaginal cones are one of the safest and simplest ways to correct the sagging hammock and raise the sphincter muscle back to its original point. Typically, they come in a set, with weights ranging from 20 grams to 60 grams.
The quality of the weight sets vary. The better sets are “self-positioning”. That is to say, that once inserted, they position themselves in the area where the PC muscles connect to the vagina’s walls. It’s best to look for a set in which each weight has a looped string for ease of removal.
In addition to improving bladder function, the weights can also improve sexual function and gratification. Women say that strengthening this area makes their orgasms stronger. That makes sense, because orgasms are ultimately muscle contractions. If the muscle is weak or atrophied, the sensation is much less noticeable.
The sets can be purchased without a doctor’s prescription, although they are often “doctor-recommended”. Vaginal cones are a natural way to get your body back in shape or prevent muscular weakness in the area. It is just as important as any other exercise, for your long-term health. |
